Yaple is with the State School Boards Association. Yaple said that with a vacated seat, the Board has the power to appoint until the next election, which in New Milford is Nov. 5. The filing deadline for a name to appear on the ballot is set by the County Clerk's office and it is the the discretion of each County Clerk in NJ whether, in a situation where a BOE seat has been vacated after the filing date, to extend the filing. I have not yet received an answer from the Bergen County Clerk's office regarding their position in this matter.

ReplyThe map that was removed from the site was not an official FEMA or DEP flood map. It was a tool created by the town's (then) planner, Kauker & Kauker, for inclusion in the 2010 master plan re-examination as a tool to be used by the Planning Board.
It appears that Kauker had taken a land use map and made delineations outlining the 100-year flood plain. Because it was a planning tool only, it was removed by the Planning Board so that people would not think that this map was an official FEMA or DEP flood map. -

These were the preliminary drawings that DelVecchio displayed and took with him that night. He has yet to file any amendments with detailed renderings with the Zoning Board. I will be looking at them as soon as they're filed and made public.

ReplyTime to cool the conversation down. As always, I believe debate on any issue--especially one that raises the temperature in the room such as this--is healthy and encouraged. A differing point of view can be informative and even persuasive, or it can serve to strengthen resolve, but it always adds value to the conversation.
And I wholeheartedly embrace the first amendment right to freedom of speech, but I ask everyone to stay focused on the topic at hand. In less than seven days the Zoning Board meets again to hear this application in its newly amended form. At that time many questions may be answered, many more will likely arise. But let us please keep this forum open and confined to the exchange of opinions and ideas. Let's stay away from any and all personal attacks. Let us be mindful that many middle school and high school students are following the Hekemian hearings on Patch--let's show them the underpinnings of democracy by leading by example. Let's all take a deep breath.
