Local Teams move on to Odyssey of the Mind State Finals

Students from OPS and RDMS are victorious in problem solving

Students from Oradell Public School and River Dell Middle School, under the direction of Mrs Traci Killeen and Mrs Susan Keitel, returned victorious from the Odyssey of the MInd, Liberty Regional Tournament on Saturday, March 5. Odyssey of the Mind is an international creative problem solving competition which encourages students in grades K-12 to apply their skills and imagination to solve problems involving literary classics, mechanics, balsa structures and much more. Oradell Public School is proud to have two fifth grade teams advance to the State Tournament. 18-Year-Old Finn Overcomes Obstacles

First RiverDell Patch Whiz KId is his teacher's hero

David Finn is not like just any 18-year-old student at River Dell. He has dedicated his life to living life to the fullest and to learning as much as possible. Finn has also accomplished something few other River Dell students have done - beat Superintendent Patrick Fletcher at chess. Finn struggles with multiple handicaps and has no formal speech, but according to his Humanities teacher Carolyn Krzastek, he has become her hero because her perseveres.  "David is well liked, respected and loved by all of the students and staff," Krzastek said. "He absorbs everything. He is the man that is out and about. Just to know him is to love and respect him. He is my hero." I remember David when I was a substitute teacher at Roosevelt School. I applaud David for his enthusiasm for learning, and credit his teachers, wonderful aides (mentors,) and his classmates for encouraging him and being a part of his learning experience. He's a great akid!!!   more ›
