Acquafredda, Cappola Take Council Seats in River Edge

Councilmen-elect Vito Acquafredda and Anthony Cappola were sworn in today while Thomas Papaleo was named Council President

For the first time in several years, the River Edge Council will now have a three-three split as Councilmen-elect Vito Acquafredda (D) and Anthony Cappola (R) officially took their places on the dais during Monday's 2013 Reorganization meeting. Acquafredda and Cappola each garnered 2,529 and 2,250 votes respectively during the November election and oust incumenbent Republican Council President Paul Cordts (2,299 votes). "I want to thank my family for making this possible," Cappola said. "I'm proud to work with this Mayor and Council. I've lived in many towns in New Jersey and am proud to be here on this dais. Top River Edge Spot Goes to Moscaritolo

Voters support change for Mayor

Voters in River Edge came out today to push for change on the governing body and in a tight race the top spot in town went to Sandy Moscaritolo by a slim margin of 72 votes. Moscaritolo garnered 1,583 votes over incumbent Mayor Margaret Watkins with 1,511. The newcomer to River Edge politics joined the council in December to serve the remaining one-year term following Mary Anne Rush's resignation. A municipal law attorney, he joined the council after spending many years working for the Borough of New Milford as their Municipal Prosecutor, Municipal Court Judge, Borough Attorney, and member of their Board of Education before coming to River Edge. He received a law degree from the University of Bridgeport and his law practice is located in …

River Edger 2: WIth all due respect, there is only so much we can do to attract business, to town, and it is not much that we really can do. If a business wants to open here they will open. We will always be overshadowed by Paramus, and most business ventures will want to be there simple as that.
