This weekend five Crusaders and three Golden Hawks sought state wrestling titles
As the top seed in his weight class, Johnny Sebastian of Bergen Catholic was the favorite to bring home a state title from the Atlantic City wrestling championship this weekend and the sophomore Crusader did not disappoint. After being down in the finals to Philip Bakuckas of Hammonton with one minute remaining, Sebastian battled back for a 7-3 win and his first state title. Prior to facing Bakuckas, Sebastian was able to hold Becton/Wallington's James Dugan off in a 3-2 decision in the semifinals. He breezed into his match-up with Dugan after an outstanding 16-3 decsion over Dylan Dobzanski (Delsea) and then Keith Lemongello (Pequannock) 3-1 on Friday night. Crusaders outlast Delbarton in opening round of state tournament; top-seeded Seton Hall up next
They’ve lost a few games this year when they their performance lacked a certain level of grit. Take it from the post-game mood of the Bergen Catholic basketball team Wednesday night: winning ugly is a better way to go. Bergen Catholic was the eighth seed, and Delbarton was seeded ninth for the first round of the Non-Public North A state tournament. They engaged in such a close contest that perhaps they should have only been separated by decimal points. Patch previews this week's upcoming events
Several teams earned their berths in the state basketball and hockey tournaments while individual wrestlers are heading to Atlantic City all looking for titles. All basketball squads and Bergen hockey will start their postseason run at home before heading out on the road. The Lady Hawks and Golden Hawks will play in a double-header Monday evening with the fifth seeded girls seeking to return to the sectional final with a 5pm face-off with Pascack Hills, 12th seed. Last year, the Cowgirls rode to victory and claimed the N1G2 sectional title from defending champion River Dell. The boys enter the N1G2 race in sixth and are looking to make a deep run, starting with 11th seeded Kinnelon Colts at 7pm. But they will face an uphill battle with a …
