Acquafredda Claims Council Seat from Republicans

With few contested races in the borough, voters focused on River Edge Council, a Oradell seat on the Regional Board of Ed and restoring the River Edge Open Space Trust Fund

Tuesday's election may have been the last thing on many River Dell residents minds, but nonetheless, many took to the polls for what was largely an uncontested set of ballots. This year only the River Edge council and Oradell seat on the Regional Board of Education were contested. River Edge voters were also asked on a separate ballot question if they would want to renew the Open Space Trust Fund. The Republican majority was disrupted as challenger Vito Acquafredda reclaimed a seat for the Democrats to create a three-three split as he ousted Council President Paul Cordts by 396 votes. Acquafredda garnered 2,415 votes with Cordts trailing with 2,019. Acquafredda, who has served on the Regional Board of Education since 2002, will now step …

The local Democrats whole platform is to apply for more grants, and support our volunteers, apparently they believe that is all it will take to get RE back on a firm financial footing. Also Mr. Acquafreeda was on the RD BOE during the referendum process, a 26 million dollar expenditure. I do not …   more ›

Environmental Update Due in June for American Legion

Slated to be torn down, River Edge is currently waiting an environmental study to determine clean-up efforts

The clock continues to run down for the River Edge American Legion's life span as an environmental report is due in June dictacting if there is any asbestos, underground storage tanks or lead paint on site. The report, compiled by Environmental Solutions, is needed prior to the eventual demolition of the 80 to 90-year-old Dutch Colonial-style building, so that when it is taken down, any contaminants such as asbestos or lead paint can be removed safely. The funding for the study and demolition, approximately $50,000, was set aside in the capital budget for 2012. The building is plagued with flooding and mold issues along with not being ADA compliant. Additionally, the duct work is exposed on the exterior, there is a need for new windows and…

River Edger 2: WIth all due respect, there is only so much we can do to attract business, to town, and it is not much that we really can do. If a business wants to open here they will open. We will always be overshadowed by Paramus, and most business ventures will want to be there simple as that. As far as merging all 3 districts yet another pipe dream. It will never happen unless the state forces…   more ›
