The female driver was transported to the hospital for medical clearance after passing out at the wheel and crashing into a stopped commuter bus
A female driver had to be extricated from her minivan on Tuesday afternoon after passing out behind the wheel and crashing into a Rockland Coaches bus on Kinderkamack Road. The accident, which occured around 12:20pm, stalled traffic on Kinderkamack Road from Oradell Avenue to Center Avenue as Oradell Police and Fire removed the driver through the rear of the minivan. "Only thing I can say so far is that the driver passed out," Oradell Police Chief Frank Florio said. "It could have been a medical issue as the car struck the bus while it was stopped at the bus stop." The southbound bus was taking on passengers just outside of The Reformed Church of Oradell next to Borough Hall before resuming travel to the Port Authority bus terminal. …

Borough will now be able to move forward with bringing department up to adequate supervisory staffing levels
With unanimous approval, Oradell has joined the few towns in Bergen County that have adopted a Police Promotion Procedure to the rolls. The new ordinance officially outlines the process for officers to be elevated to the rank of sergeant, lieutenant, captain and chief. Previously, the borough followed an unofficial set of rules and regulations that were drafted by the police themselves. The new process stipulates how and when an officer could expect to move through the ranks and have ample opportunity for promotion. "I want to thank the council for adopting the promotional ordinance so that we can move ahead with getting the police department fully staffed with supervisory personnel," Council President and Police Department liaison James …

The proposed ordinance will be voted on at the end of January and then amended later this year to include the ranks of Detective and Detective Sgt.
With several rank-and-file leadership positions open in the Oradell Police Department, the borough is nearing completion of its own police promotion ordinance, to outline the department's requirements for advancement. The ordinance outlines the process for officers to be elevated to the rank of sergeant, lieutenant, captain and chief and will be voted on later this month for approval. The ranks of detective and detective sergeant will be added in the spring. "Generally up until this point, the promotional process in the department has been guided by an unofficial set of rules and regulations that were drafted by the police themselves," Council President Jim Koth said. Koth is also the borough liaison to the police department. "This process…

During their day off, Oradell Police Officers trained in an abandoned house to better prepare for crisis situations
While the Oradell Fire Department normally gets first dibs at running training exercises in vacant homes, the borough's finest in blue took advantage of a future knockdown on Prospect Avenue for their most recent training scenarios. Led by Sgt. Kevin Doyle, who is one of two firearms instructors in the borough, Lt. Michael Oslacky and Patrolmen Richard Ligouri and Thomas Madden engaged in heightening their split second decision making skills in the use and discharge of their firearms. "We have between two to three activated burglary alarms every day so this is a similar scenario," Doyle said. "Officers may be asked to face armed suspects with no live training; Simunitions provides this training and is the closest thing to a real experience…
