The Board of Education introduced its $11.1 million 2013-14 school budget earlier this week
With state aid remaining flat and Trenton requiring $43,261 to be returned, the Oradell Public School's 2013-14 budget will include a $43 increase to the average homeowner under the recently introduced $11.1 million budget. The proposed budget comes in at the state mandate 2% tax levy cap of $10,043,194 after OPS learned it would again receive $328,932 in state aid. According to OPS Business Administrator Alfredo Aguilar, the $43 tax increase is the current estimate while the district waits on the final 2012 ratables amount to be determined by the borough. The increase is based on the 2011 numbers. For the second year in the row, OPS like many other school districts in New Jersey, was hit with a new fee to return a portion of their state …

Andrew Oddo, Christine Robertson, and Katherine Norian took their seats on the board of education
By a unanimous decision, Oradell Board of Education trustee Dorothy Watson-Nichols returned to her role as Board President for the next year. At the same time, returning trustees Christine Robertson and Katherine Norian retook their seats while newcomer Andrew Oddo was also sworn in during Monday evenings reorganization meeting. The elementary school board races were uncontested this past November as Andrew Oddo (1,394) was elected to his first term as outgoing trustee Louis Ferrante opted to not seek reelection. The Bergen County Clerk's Office has released the official Nov. 6 election results
Official election results from the Bergen County Clerk's Office show no change in the outcome of the Nov. 6 local election where voters ousted Council President Paul Cordts for council and voted in a newcomer to the Regional Board of Education. River Edge also approved the Open Space Referendum by a small margin. According to official results Vito Acquafredda remained at the top in River Edge taking in 36 percent of the vote with incumbent Anthony Cappola picking up 32 percent. Cordts followed in with 31 percent. This fall, the school will welcome a new superintendent, assistant principal and two supervisors of instruction
After being thrown a curveball last week with news that Principal Scott Ryan would be retiring in August prior to the start of the school year, the Oradell Board of Education announced their new administrative staff on Wednesday night. Along with Ryan, Oradell Public School will also be losing the services of Assistant Principal John Norton who will be taking a similar position in a different district. Instead the district will continue to have Thomas Santagato serve as Director of Special Education and Student Support Services and welcome four new administrators to their new positions. Anne Facendo who was named as the lone finalist for the Superintendent's job will now enter the district in a dual role as Superintendent/Principal, …

Majority of races for Board of Education this November are uncontested
With the move to November for the tri-district Board of Education elections, only Roger Tashjian's Oradell seat on the Regional Board will be contested this fall. Tashjian who is not seeking reelection will instead watch from the sidelines as Michael Gardner and Patrick Gallagher battle for the open three-year term. Incumbents from River Edge Joe Manzelli and Claudia O'Neill will face no competition to return to the Regional Board. Also running unopposed this year are candidates for the River Edge and Oradell boards as well. Incumbents Katherine Norian and Christine Robertson are set to resume their seats come January while Andrew Oddo will replace Louis Ferrante.
