Crusaders Commit with Rutgers, Northwestern, Johns Hopkins Topping the List

17 Bergen Catholic seniors will take their talents to the NCAA as freshman from the Division-3 level up to Division-1 schools

From Rhode Island and Maryland to Arizona and Illinois and back to New Jersey, 17 Bergen Catholic Crusaders officially inked their NCAA Letters of Intent during a Wednesday morning ceremony. The 17 seniors represented seven varsity teams from football, tennis, baseball, lacrosse, track and field, soccer and golf. Of the athletes, 11 have committed to a Division-1 program with two to Division-2 schools and three competing on the Division-3 level. "We are honoring everyone who has committed to be an NCAA athlete next year," Bergen Catholic Sports Information Director Dan Long said. "These 17 athletes represent seven Crusader sports. Germano Named NJ 2012 Gatorade Football Player of the Year

For the first time in 12 years, Bergen Catholic has had a student-athlete named Gatorade Player of the Year

Bergen Catholic senior quarterback and Hawthorne native Jonathan Germano has been named the 2012 Gatorade Football Player of the Year, the first such honor for a student-athlete in Bergen Catholic’s storied football program.   Germano has enjoyed an amazing three-year varsity career for the Crusaders, rewriting the record books when it comes to the quarterback position, as he will leave as the school’s all-time leader in career passing touchdowns, yards, and completions.  “The award, which recognizes not only outstanding athletic excellence, but also high standards of academic achievement and exemplary character demonstrated on and off the field, distinguishes Germano as New Jersey’s best high school football player,” according to the …
