Crusaders Focus for 2012 is State Title, Undefeated Season

Ambitious schedule and loss of top player John Tsimis provide incentive for Bergen Catholic to overcome all obstacles this season

After putting arch rival Don Bosco on the ropes during their regular season match-up and then a disappointing route by the Ironmen in the North Non-Public A championship, the 2012 Bergen Catholic Crusaders have set their sights on winning a title they last brought home to Oradell in 2004. This year's squad will once again be led by quarterback John Germano from the shotgun position. Germano, who made a name for himself over the summer by winning the MSG Varsity Tri-State Quarterback Showdown, has found himself staring down the field this fall at a daunting schedule against the likes of Long Island powerhouse St. Anthony's and a trip to sin city itself for a match-up with Bishop Gorman; and all of this must be done without right-…

Two from Bergen Catholic Headed to Division One

Teammates Kyle Quiero and Rich Queen recently verbally committed to continue playing football in college

For the first time in two years, the Bergen Catholic Class of 2013 can boast three rising seniors that will head off to Division 1 schools following their final season sporting red and gold. After the news that John Tsimis commited to Rutgers early this summer, fellow teammates Kyle Quiero and Rich Queen followed suite. Queiro, considered a dual threat in the secondary and also spends time as a receiver was courted by 16 higher universities from Boston College and Duke to North Carolina and Rutgers before finally settling in on Northwestern. The 6-foot-3, 190-pound prospect recorded 44 tackles and intercepted four passes during his junior season and this summer has been excelling in Bergen's 7-on-7 competitions, earning Defensive MVP …

Crusaders Create Daunting National Football Schedule

Bergen Catholic will open the season against the St. Anthony Friars before heading to Sin City in week two

Bergen Catholic will be embarking on its most ambitious football schedule in school history in 2012, and will face four state championship winning programs hailing from four different states from across the country. Five of BC’s eight regular season opponents were ranked in the National Top 100 at various points last season, where BC itself finished among the nation’s elite programs in several publications.  BC will begin their 2012 football campaign on Friday September 7th by visiting the top football program in the state of New York when they take on the Friars of St. Anthony’s High School on Long Island. St. Anthony’s has won 10 of the last 11 CHSFL AAA Championships in New York, have currently won three-straight state titles, and own …

Crusaders Falter in Palmetto Finals

Bergen Catholic gridiron squad recently competed in the Palmetto State Showdown 7-on-7 football tournament.

The tournament was held in Duncan, South Carolina and featured 20 teams from six different states, and BC was the lone representative from New Jersey and one of only two teams from the north (the other being Dover, Delaware). This is the third time that BC has participated in this tournament, which features some of the best skill players from the South. BC surprised the rest of the tournament by going undefeated on the first day of the event, going (7-0) and winning their games rather easily. On the second day of the tourney, with the last three games in pool play used to decide the playoff seeding, BC again swept through and finished as the only undefeated team (10-0) in the entire field. This included a classic game between BC and host …

There is still exciting football to be played for the Bergen Catholic Crusaders as they prepare for their their State Championship game against Don Bosco following the first ever Thanksgiving Day game against Paramus Catholic. Senior cornerback and slot receiver Chucky Wingate is ready to take the field and continue his successful senior season. Proud to be a Crusader, he has enjoyed every second of playing and wearing red and gold. “I believe it has been a blessing to play with a tremendous group of individuals in my final season as a Bergen Catholic Crusader,” Wingate said. Wingate’s mental toughness, elusiveness and speed have been three main traits that have contributed to his success on the field for Bergen Catholic. This year’s team …
