State officials announced Friday that a body found in a Passaic County reservoir Wednesday had been identified as Cathy Ann Debono, an Oakland woman missing since 2008.  An 18-year-old Glen Rock High School senior was arrested Tuesday at the school on charges of heroin distribution, according to borough police.  Wyckoff detectives participating in a Bergen County task force investigating "known burglars" have linked a Teaneck man to a February burglary in the township, police said Thursday. A dentist from Mahwah who pleaded guilty earlier this year to running a $2 million dental scam was sentenced to 21 months in prison, US Attorney Paul J. Fishman announced in a release Wednesday. Mahwah Police are investigating the alleged robbery and sexual assault of a 20-year-old Fair Lawn man whom police say drunkenly encountered two Mahwah teens on a train from New York City last week. According to Mahwah Police Chief Jim Batelli, police suspect two Mahwah teenagers forced the Fair Lawn man to perform sexual acts on them and then stole his iPad and a wad of cash after the duo met the man on the train at around 3 a.m. last Thursday. An upscale Wyckoff restaurant and an East Rutherford cafe are among 29 New Jersey bars accused of pulling a switch on patrons, selling low-end liquors from high-end bottles and charging customers the higher price, the Division of Alcoholic Beverage Control announced Wednesday.  Middle school student's father had appealed the district's finding of bullying, which concluded the boy had called a classmate "fat" and "a horse" on multiple occasions, The Star-Ledger reports. Hazardous Waste Collection in Mahwah Saturday

Mahwah’s Campgaw Mountain Reservation will host a Bergen County Utilities Authority Hazardous Waste Collection this Saturday. The BCUA will be accepting waste products at the reservation from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., rain or shine. The drop-off is free to all county residents carrying an ID. Residents can bring any “hazardous wastes” that they need to safely throw away. Flag Football League Coming to Bergen County

Entrepreneur says the NFL-registered league will be open to first graders through adults.

A local entrepreneur has started a new league that he says will help fill a void in the Bergen County sports scene. Carl Susini, of Mahwah, was a coach in the township's Youth Football League for eight years before serving as president of the Bergen Passaic Youth Football League. Though Susini and his wife could not have any children, he says the impact youth sports had on him as a child prompted him to become involved in the existing programs in the township, and create something new. “I remember the experience I got,” he said. “It was not only educational, I learned things that were really life-changing. More than 100 people face charges in a drug investigation prompted by a "stunning increase" in heroin overdose deaths across Bergen County, Prosecutor John L. Molinelli said Thursday. The approximately 120 arrests ranged from drug traffickers moving the heroin between Trenton and Paterson to dozens of buyers from leafy North Jersey communities, Molinelli said. Last year, Bergen logged 28 overdose deaths, a more than 100 percent jump over the prior year. Eleven men and women were arrested on charges of stealing identities to open credit cards in an alleged scheme that is believed to have defrauded more than 70 victims. Infamous North Jersey Hitman Comes Alive in 'The Iceman'

Richard Kuklinski, a Dumont man who killed more than 100 people, is the subject of director Ariel Vromen's crime thriller.

A film based on the true life story of one of New Jersey’s most notorious killers is set to hit select theaters this Friday. "The Iceman" tells the story of Dumont's Richard Kuklinski, from his ordinary family life to his introduction to the mob and his arrest for murder.  Kuklinski said he killed more than 100 people, many during his time associated with the mafia in the 1970s and 80s. $400 Million Repair Cost for Bergen Bridges [Interactive Map]

The most structurally deficient bridge in New Jersey is right here in Bergen County, according to a new study. The Court Street Bridge a mile north of I-80 in Hackensack, which has been recently repaired, sits at the bottom of the list of deficient bridges across the state, according to a NJ Spotlight analysis of data from the National Bridge Inventory. The analysis looked at infrastructure across the state and found that one in four bridges "is in poor condition or inadequate to handle modern traffic loads." The price tag to fix the deficiencies across Bergen County comes in at approximately $400 million, while the cost to fix bridges across New Jersey is approximately $6 billion. County Seeks Public Input on Long-Range Transportation Plans

Workshop will be held Wednesday, April 24, at Bergen Community College.

Bergen County is hosting Together North Jersey and the North Jersey Transportation Planning Authority and invites members of the public to share their ideas at this workshop set for Wednesday, April 24 from 6 to 8:30 p.m. at  Bergen Community College. This input will be used to develop the long-range plans that will shape the future of northern and central New Jersey. The workshop is part of a series being held throughout the region by Together North Jersey, a consortium of local, state, and regional partners working together on a regional plan for sustainable development.  These workshops are an opportunity for the public to share ideas about planning for the future to build stronger communities and local and regional economies with …

Assault Weapons, Mortar Shell Collected at Bergen Gun Buyback

Program pays out more than $100,000 for unwanted weapons at locations across Bergen County.

Bergen County's weekend gun buyback collected 1,345 firearms, including 10 assault weapons, along with thousands of rounds of ammunition and a mortar shell, officials said Tuesday.  Sheriff Michael Saudino displayed the two-day program's haul, from antiques to automatic weapons, during a press conference in Hackensack. Saudino hailed the program as a way to boost safety in the county, but said he would continue working to prevent gun violence.  “As we’ve seen far too many times, gun violence – whether intentional or accidental – destroys lives," the sheriff said.
