Councilmen-elect Vito Acquafredda and Anthony Cappola were sworn in today while Thomas Papaleo was named Council President
For the first time in several years, the River Edge Council will now have a three-three split as Councilmen-elect Vito Acquafredda (D) and Anthony Cappola (R) officially took their places on the dais during Monday's 2013 Reorganization meeting. Acquafredda and Cappola each garnered 2,529 and 2,250 votes respectively during the November election and oust incumenbent Republican Council President Paul Cordts (2,299 votes). "I want to thank my family for making this possible," Cappola said. "I'm proud to work with this Mayor and Council. I've lived in many towns in New Jersey and am proud to be here on this dais. I look forward to being a servant to you as I see my role to serve you and be held accountable by the community." Cappola was …

Dear Editor, I am writing this letter with regard to Councilman Anthony Cappola and the outstanding qualities which make him the ideal person to represent your interests. It has been my privilege to know Anthony for the last 25 years. Over those years, Mr. Cappola has demonstrated leadership, passion and dedication which is unmatched. Anthony’s business acumen was clearly evident early on. While only a teenager, Anthony began his own entertainment business while the rest of us were playing games and watching television. Starting out in his parents’ living room, he turned a dream into a reality and has since turned that business into one of the most successful entertainment companies in northern NJ. Anthony was able to accomplish this on …

I am writing to support the candidacy of Paul Cordts and Anthony Cappola for River Edge Council. I have known Paul Cordts for many years and have been very impressed with his work and commitment as a Councilman. As a small business owner and family man, Paul understands from experience the impact local government has on our daily lives. His fiscal responsibility and common sense problem solving have benefitted our Town during his tenure as Councilman. Anthony Cappola has likewise impressed me with his willingness to serve his community and his genuine concern for the people of River Edge. Anthony also understands from his own business experience the crucial role of government and the important fiscal challenges facing our Town in this …

November Republican candidate in River Edge will gain three months of experience as he fills a vacancy
With just a little over three months to go until the November election, Republican Council candidate Anthony Cappola of River Edge will be getting to experience what life is like on the governing body after being sworn in Monday night to fill the seat of Johnny Porco, who resigned from the Council June 5. Cappola ran last November for the Council and lost by a slim 45-vote margin to Thomas Papaleo. During the June Primary he garnered 215 votes as the Borough saw a low turnout for the uncontested race. He is an independent business owner of a successful entertainment company he founded almost 20 years ago with a Masters degree in Special Education and a Bachelors degree in History. Previously, Cappola was a parochial school teacher where he…

Voters support change for Mayor
Voters in River Edge came out today to push for change on the governing body and in a tight race the top spot in town went to Sandy Moscaritolo by a slim margin of 72 votes. Moscaritolo garnered 1,583 votes over incumbent Mayor Margaret Watkins with 1,511. The newcomer to River Edge politics joined the council in December to serve the remaining one-year term following Mary Anne Rush's resignation. A municipal law attorney, he joined the council after spending many years working for the Borough of New Milford as their Municipal Prosecutor, Municipal Court Judge, Borough Attorney, and member of their Board of Education before coming to River Edge.
