Councilmen-elect Vito Acquafredda and Anthony Cappola were sworn in today while Thomas Papaleo was named Council President
For the first time in several years, the River Edge Council will now have a three-three split as Councilmen-elect Vito Acquafredda (D) and Anthony Cappola (R) officially took their places on the dais during Monday's 2013 Reorganization meeting. Acquafredda and Cappola each garnered 2,529 and 2,250 votes respectively during the November election and oust incumenbent Republican Council President Paul Cordts (2,299 votes). The Regional Board of Ed wished outgoing members Vito Acquafredda and Roger Tashjian farewell Monday night
On the same night that the River Dell Board of Education watched two members resign, the district also had to say farewell to retiring trustees Vito Acquafredda and Roger Tashjian. Acquafredda will join the River Edge borough council on January 1 2013 while Tashjian opted to not run for reelection this past November. "We have two board members retiring," board president Joseph Manzelli said. "One who is leaving us after a four-year run on the board and has taught me a lot; and another who has been on the board for 10 years and am glad to call my friend." Dear Editor: Vito Acquafredda is the best candidate for the River Edge Borough Council and deserves your vote. I have worked with him and witnessed his passion for our town during my years as a River Dell Board of Ed Trustee, and no candidate comes close to the level of commitment Vito possesses. Vito volunteered his time and talents on the school board even as his own children were long past school age. His character, commitment, and conscientious concern for our community cannot be overstated. Vito, with his background in architecture and construction, will be key to the proper development of the South End.
