The River Edge Police Department's annual toy drive saw an overwhelming response from the community
This past December, members of the River Edge PBA Local 201 collected a variety of toys during the annual Toy Drive to benefit families in Monmouth County's Union Beach which was hit hard by Hurricane Sandy's destructive forces. "This year we delivered toys to Union Beach in Monmouth County which got hit hard by Hurrican Sandy," REPD Officer Joseph Zemaites said. Zemaites is also the Vice President of PBA Local 201. "The destruction was unbelievable." In prior years, the majority of donations have been delivered to Bergen County Head Start, a program for underprivileged children based out of Bergenfield, and the Audrey Hepburn Children's House of Hackensack University Medical Center, for children of physical and mental abuse. Collections will run through Dec. 20 with a drop box at the Oradell Police Station
The Oradell Police Department will be collecting new unwrapped toys at the police station through Dec. 20 to benefit military families and Hurricane Sandy victims across New Jersey. As part of the two-dozen police departments in the Santa Response Team, items will be collected now through Dec. 17 at police headquarters, 355 Kinderkamack Road, Oradell. Along with military families and Hurricane Sandy victims, collected items will also be delivered to the Sanzari Children's Hospital, Westside Infant & Teen Center, Tomorrow's Children, Bergen County Head Start Programs and New Hope in Westwood. Drop boxes located throughout town will be set up until Dec. 17
River Edge PBA Local 201 has once again kicked off its annual toy drive! Drop boxes are located at the River Edge Police Department, River Edge Diner, and the River Edge Library. Anyone wishing to contribute is asked to drop off a new and unwrapped toy at any of these locations. Drop boxes will be out until December 17. In previous years donations from the annual toy drive have been delivered to the Audrey Hepburn House of Hackensack University Medical Center, for children of physical and mental abuse, and the Bergen County Head Start program for underprivileged children, located in Bergenfield. Golden Hawks' seniors from the gridiron donate toys to third graders
During the holiday season signs and posters hang around town advertising toy drives, clothing drives and food drives; but the River Dell Golden Hawks football squad began their efforts back in September. For three years, the Hawks' team have collected unwrapped toys to donate to the third grade students at the Etta Gero School 9 in Passaic where senior DB/QB Derek Rodriguez's mother works. 18 seniors from the football team along with Santa dropped the toys off earlier this morning. The drive, which began when Derek was a sophomore, started with Rosa Rodriguez telling her students about the Golden Hawks accomplishments, both on and off the gridiron.
