The former Lady Hawks centerfielder will don a Wolverines uniform next spring
Over her athletic career on the diamond with the River Dell Lady Hawks, Stephanie Caracozza's role as a utility player served her teammates well as she rotated between three positions over four years: right field, catcher and center field. She will now take her talents to the Wesley Wolverines next spring where she could very well end up in any fielding position. Standing at 5'1", she earned the spot as lead-off hitter following her freshman year and has remained there having batted over .300 each season. This past season she led the Lady Hawks with 40 hits, 20 runs and 17 RBIs. She also has an average .930 fielding percentage. During her high school career, she was named to the All-League list each year and All-County in 2011 and 2012. …

Kelly Dowell will always remember her junior year of high school. Dowell, 34, was the starting catcher for River Dell’s first—and only—state championship softball team. “The season was great,” said Dowell, who grew up in River Edge. “We were just a group of kids who loved the sport and played growing up. It was a magical season.” Dowell, who graduated in 1995, noted that the team possessed strong chemistry due to the girls playing together in the recreation program before high school. The Lady Hawks won league that year, but were eliminated by Fair Lawn in Bergen County tournament. “Around that time, River Dell softball was great,” Dowell said. The year before, River Dell won its league, the Bergen County Tournament and the North 1, Group…
