Lady Hawks Host Benefit Tournament, Falter Against Summit

The Lady Hawks took to to their home court against the Hilltoppers and came up short 30-28 to bring their early season record to 1-1

The River Dell Lady Hawks competed against the Summit Hilltoppers on Sunday night for the Autism Speaks Benefit. The Autism Speaks Benefit ‘provides personalized attention to all major gift donors.’ The Lady Hawks, who opened their season with a 38-28 victory over rival Ramsey, faltered in the final minutes, 30-28 and bring their season record to 1-1. “We’re still a new team so were not working together, but once we get a few games under our belt we’ll be much better,” senior captain Kayla McGovern stated. The Hilltoppers started the game off strong as Madeline Gramigna (six points) secured the first field goal of the night. Hawks Basketball Open Their Season with a Win

The Golden Hawks took on Ramsey Friday night, leading them with a 58-51 win.

The River Dell Golden Hawks Boys Basketball team defeated Ramsey on Friday night and while the Rams put up a close fight, River Dell was able to record the 58-51 victory. The Golden Hawks started off strong with junior Dan Desiderio scoring the first basket to lead the Hawks in the right direction. Ramsey not far behind, was only down by one point at the end of the first quarter (15-14.) Desiderio had several lay-ups and three-pointers concluding his personal record to 26 points the whole game making him the strongest scorer of the night amongst both teams. “It’s a team effort” Desiderio said. “If everyone didn’t do their job I wouldn’t have gotten nearly as many points as I did during tonight’s game.” Ramsey’s best scorer of the night, …

Doing the Little Things Puts May Above the Rest

2007 River Dell graduate Alyssa May took her skills from the court and now applies them to business

Former River Dell standout Alyssa May graduated from the regional district as an extremely accomplished two-sport student-athlete. May excelled on the volleyball court as well as the basketball court. She scored 2,157 points, pulled down 1,067 rebounds, and dished out 675 assists—all school records. The Oradell native helped the Lady Hawks capture two North 1, Group 2 state sectional titles. May was an all-league, all-Bergen County, and all-state point guard. She was the North Jersey Player of the Year in 2006 and 2007. She led the volleyball team to the state semifinal, and was an all-league and all-county selection during her tenure as a setter. Yet despite all the accolades, May, a 2007 River Dell graduate, never let the superstardom go…
