NJ Transit App Puts Ticket Booth in Your Pocket

New MyTix app for Android and iPhone launched for the Pascack Valley and Meadowlands Rail lines on Thursday.

The modern cell phone is a versatile device commonly used as a camera, a radio and now... a train ticket? Sure, why not. NJ Transit unveiled a pilot program Thursday on select service lines that would enable commuters to purchase tickets and monthly passes anytime, anywhere.  “Giving customers the ability to purchase and display rail tickets right from their phones will make traveling on NJ Transit trains even more convenient for the customers who use our system every day,” said Transportation Commissioner and NJ Transit Board Chairman James Simpson. “Although the initial pilot is for our Pascack Valley and Meadowlands Rail Line customers, our ultimate goal is to put this technology into the hands of all of our rail customers.” The MyTix …

You have been misled, the WMDs absolutely existed because Rumsfield sold them to them to Iraq during the Ford and Reagan years, unfortunately they and about $100 million in cold hard US currency was smuggled out of Iraq into Iran and Syria and god knows where else before we could get in there and reclaim them. The Mustard Gas Saddam used on the Kurds was compliments of the USA. Most folks forget…   more ›

Report: NJ Transit Customer Satisfaction at All-Time High

Nearly 4 out of 5 post-Sandy survey respondents now say they would recommend transportation agency to friend, relative.

A new customer satisfaction survey of New Jersey Transit customer’s post-Superstorm Sandy has overwhelmingly endorsed the job the agency has been doing, according to an announcement by the Christie administration and the agency Tuesday. In the online survey conducted Feb. 4 through February 25, or during the third quarter of the agency’s fiscal year, nearly four in five customers, or nearly 14,000 participants on the agency's website (njtransit.com) said they would recommend NJ Transit to a friend or relative. The results mark a new high for the statewide public transit agency. The survey asked bus, rail, light rail and Access Link customers to rate the agency on a scale of 0 to 10 and asked riders to also consider 41 attributes of the …

Why bother complaining? The fix is in, as it is in every area of this state. It doesn't matter who you vote for. Christie was 100 percent behind the fare hikes. NJT will continue to have bloated payrolls and overpaid workers, and will continue to raise fares. But at least you'll get a pretty brochure on your train seat every so often.   more ›

Oradell Train Fares Rising in March for Off-Peak Hours

NJ Transit is raising the fares at some of its Pascack Valley, Main and Bergen County line stations.

NJ Transit is raising the fares at 16 of its train stations March 1, according to an advisory posted on their website. The increase will affect only the off-peak round trip rides from the Oradell train stations. A single ride to Hoboken from Oradell will cost $8.25 and a single ride to Penn Station will cost $9.25. A full fare chart is available on the NJ Transit website here. The increase is coming because of a rate increase on Metro-North trains. The two lines have an agreement to keep fares consistent, though this has caused some stations on the Pascack Valley and Main/Bergen lines to have lower fares than on other NJ Transit lines, according to the advisory. Metro-North reimburses NJ Transit for the difference.

Am I reading this right? It will now cost a family of 4 $74 round trip to get into Penn Station? It's cheaper to drive and park, even with the tolls.   more ›

NJ Transit Cross-Honoring Tickets During Storm

Cross-honoring in effect through Thursday.

As the area braces for a potential three-to-five inches of tardy snow (not quite a White Christmas, but close, right?), NJ Transit announced that it would be cross-honoring of tickets starting at 1 p.m. Wednesday. Cross-honoring will remain in effect until the end of the service day Thursday, Dec. 27, enabling customers to use their ticket or pass on an alternate travel mode—rail, bus or light rail. For example, customers who normally take the bus from Rutherford to the Port Authority Bus Terminal may use their bus pass on the train from Rutherford to New York Penn Station. Similarly, customers who normally take the bus between Atlantic City and Lindenwold may use the train instead. Customers are reminded that many NJ Transit rail lines …

Typical NJ Transit. They will cross-honor tickets during the storm. They should do that all the time! There shouldn't be a difference between having a bus ticket or a rail ticket, it's all going to the same pocket- NJ Transit. It would be helpful if NJT would, at some point, let customers know what their travel options are if rail is out. For example, if service goes out on the Morris & Essex …   more ›

NJ Transit will cross-honor tickets all day on Tuesday, "enabling customers to use their ticket or pass on an alternate travel mode-rail, bus or light rail," according to a press release. "For example, customers who normally take the bus from Rutherford to the Port Authority Bus Terminal may use their bus pass on the train from Rutherford to New York Penn Station. NJ Transit: Pascack Valley Line Still Suspended

The Dinky in Princeton and the Newark Light Rail resumed service on Wednesday.

Two more NJ TRANSIT rail and light rail lines will reopen on Wednesday, Nov. 7, according to the governor's office.  The Princeton Line, also known as the "Dinky" will resume regular weekday service, and the Newark Light Rail will operate on a limited schedule between Grove Street and Newark Penn Station. Unfortunately, for those in RiverDell who use the Pascack Valley Line, that rail is still suspended.  Service remains suspended for the Bergen Line, Pascack Valley Line, Montclair-Boonton Line and the Morris and Essex Lines. An assessment of rail infrastructure has revealed significant damage across the system, including major damage due to downed trees between Summit and Millburn, as well as in Denville and Morristown.
