Estimated 400,000 people expected in region; team practices to be held in Florham Park and Media Day in Newark
The 2014 Super Bowl at MetLife Stadium is expected to have a $550 million economic impact on New Jersey and New York, with an estimated 400,000 people in the region, according to a report on dailyrecord.com. Businesses should start preparing for the flood of visitors now, according to speakers at The Big Game Huddle, an informational and networking event held Wednesday at Raritan Valley Country Club. “Start the celebration now,” said Wayne Hasenbalg, president and chief executive officer of the New Jersey Sports and Exposition Authority. “You don’t have to wait until the week before the game," he told the dailyrecord.com. That impact will be felt in North and Central Jersey, as one of the competing teams will practice at the Atlantic …

Baltimore Raven Joe Flacco said he believed MetLife Stadium should get a retractable dome if they want to host the Super Bowl in Bergen County.
Baltimore Ravens Quarterback Joe Flacco doesn't think much of plans to hold the Super Bowl at Bergen County's MetLife Stadium next year. When Denver Post reporter Mike Klis asked Flacco for his thoughts about the "cold weather" venue, the Super Bowl-bound quarterback said he thought it was "retarded," then, correcting his language, called it "stupid," according to a post on DenverPost.com. "If you want a Super Bowl, put a retractable dome on your stadium. Then you can get one," Flacco said, according to the post. "Other than that I don’t really like the idea. I don’t think people would react very well to it, or be glad to play anybody in that kind of weather.” Flacco, who grew up in South Jersey, won't have to worry about the weather when …

David Wilson dominates with 327 all-purpose yards.
EAST RUTHERFORD – David Wilson might be dizzy from all the backflips. The Giants rookie running back and kick returner – whose touchdown celebration is a standing backflip – scored three times and spent much of Sunday afternoon giving his offense terrific starting field position. The 2012 first round draft pick out of Virginia Tech amassed 327 all-purpose yards against New Orleans, 227 coming on kick returns. The 52-27 win marked the first time since 1986 the Giants scored more than 50 points, when they beat Green Bay 55-24. More importantly, it kept the defending Super Bowl champions alone atop the NFC East. Eli Manning finished the day 22 of 35 with 259 yards and four touchdowns to go along with two interceptions. Wilson received the …

For the second time this season, Bergen Catholic and Paramus Catholic will take to the field in a gridiron match-up. But this time a state title is on the line
For the first time in six years, football fans will see a different Bergen Catholic opponent in the Non Public Group 4 title game as the third seeded Crusaders take the field against top seeded Paramus Catholic on Friday 8pm at MetLife Stadium. For these two teams, whose new found rival hit an all new high two weeks ago in the Turkey Bowl (won by BC 35-21), tonight's game would actually be the second all-time playoff meeting between both sides. The last time they met in the postseason was in the 1992 Parochial North A State Final, which saw BC emerge victorious with a 44-34 win. To date, Bergen leads their series against the Paladins 30-2 with their dual losses to Paramus Catholic in 1976 (10-8) and 2006 (18-16). After defeating Don Bosco…

The New York Giants, many of whom are still without power, dropped a heartbreaker at home to the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday in front of a capacity crowd, a week after Hurricane Sandy hit the metropolitan area.
Football fans converged Sunday on East Rutherford to watch the Giants battle the Steelers at MetLife Stadium, just a couple miles from where a massive tidal surge brought on by Hurricane Sandy submerged the towns of Moonachie, Little Ferry and Carlstadt just six days earlier. More than 80,000 people turned out for the afternoon contest, overcoming the devastation wrought earlier in the week by Sandy's vicious winds and pelting rain that ripped apart homes, toppled trees and power lines, and left millions -- including many Giants players -- cold and in the dark for most, if not all of the week. Nicole Johnson, a Nassau County police officer, was one such fan. As of game time, Johnson and her husband had yet to have power restored at their …

Rich Petriccione, Senior VP of Philanthropy and Community Relations for the 2014 NY/NJ Super Bowl Host Committee spoke on Friday about how to prepare for Super Bowl XLVIII
In just 19 months, thousands of football fans will descend upon Bergen County for Super Bowl XLVIII at MetLife Stadium in February 2014. And the main question for many, is whether or not Bergen County will be ready by then. On Friday afternoon at the Stony Hill Inn in Hackensack, Rich Petriccione, Senior VP of Philanthropy and Community Relations for the 2014 NY/NJ Super Bowl Host Committee and invited guests from around the County and Bergen LEADS tackled that topic. "The Super Bowl is not just coming to New Jersey, it's coming to Bergen County," Petriccione said. "Nine states have hosted the Super Bowl for the past 46 years and New Jersey would be just the 10th, so it is important to do a great job and change the paradigm for all Super …

Early turnovers contributed to Bergen Catholic's 42-14 loss to arch rival Don Bosco
EAST RUTHERFORD— The Bergen Catholic players knelt in the visitor’s locker room as head coach Nunzio Campanile addressed his squad. He told them how proud he was of them. He admitted that top-seeded Don Bosco was a more talented team -- but he was fine with that. “I really, really wish the result was different,” Campanile said after the Crusader’s 42-14 loss to the Ironmen in the Non Public Group 4 state championship at MetLife Stadium on Dec. 2. “We all do. But, in the end, we put so much into this that it’s not just about that. We really played hard; we just got beat.” The coach shifted the focus from what happened on the field to some things he wanted to express to his squad. “The things that I want you to know,” Campanile said, “is …
