Head to the Oradell Reservoir this weekend and watch as several Pascack Valley Mayor's battle for the coveted Mayor's Cup
This weekend, mayors from across the Pascack Valley will take to the water for the fourth annual Mayor's Cup during the Reservoir Challenge. The event, hosted by the Hackensack Riverkeeper and United Water is currently scheduled for Saturday on the Oradell Reservoir but could be postponed to Sunday incase of rain. The Challenge event will take place off Shoreline Drive in Haworth, and will feature 5k and 10k kayak races in the morning, a barbecue lunch provided by Whole Foods Market, the Mayors Cup race and Guided Paddles. There will be other fun things for spectators and non-paddlers to do, including nature walks and live music. Borough Halls will be open late tonight for last minute voter registration
Today is the last day to register to vote in the June primary and cast your ballot for local council and County freeholder representatives for November along with the Republican Presidential pick. Each borough clerk's office will be open all day from 8am to 9pm so that last minute voter registrations can take place for the primary. New Jersey requires voters that participate in a Primary election to choose their political party of choice as well. To Register to Vote you must be a U.S. Citizen, at least 18 years old on or before the next election and residing in the State and County for at least 30 days. River Edge Family Dental will be offering free oral cancer screenings today
For five hours today, dentists Marlen Martirossian and Jenny Chu of River Edge Family Dentaloffering free oral cancer screenings from 2 to 7pm at their office on Kinderkamack Road. The screenings are held as part of the office's efforts to bring awareness to Oral Cancer Awareness Month. Oral cancer is not a rare disease. Approximately 37,000 people will be diagnosed with oral cancer every year in the US. It kills one person every hour of every day, and over 100 new individuals will be diagnosed with it each day. The OPS 6th grade Give Back Committee is collecting used prom wear for needy high school students
As part of the Oradell Public School's sixth grade Give Back Committee's most recent service opportunity, Thursday is the last day to donate gently used dress-ware for girls and boys – to wear to their proms. All suits, tuxedos, sport coats, dresses (of any length), shoes and accessories are greatly appreciated and will be distributed to needy high school children. The donations will benefit the YCS Fort Lee Education Center and The Love & Wisdom Family Empowerment Center of Paterson. Items can be delivered to the following locations by Thursday, April 26. All funds raised will be used towards constructing the First Responder's Memorial
In memory of all the First Responders who rushed into the Twin Towers on Sept. 11, 2001 the River Edge Local PBA has proposed a Memorial outside of Borough Hall. To partially fund their efforts, they are hosting a Benefit Dinner on Wednesday night at St. Peter the Apostle Church, 6pm and tickets are still available. The all-you-can-eat beefsteak event includes a Trick Tray and 50/50 raffle along with performances by cover band The Nerds.
