Softball Catches a Break While Crusaders Continue to Roll

Week two for spring athletes still has Bergen Catholic on a roll while Lady Hawks finally caught a break

Bergen Catholic has been on a roll this week with baseball capping a pair of victories in five innings: 14-3 over Kennedy and 14-1 over Hackensack. AJ Gallager has been the hot hitter with plenty of RBI's, double and triple to bring the Crusaders to a 5-1 record. Volleyball and golf are still undefeated as Brendan McCullagh, Kirk Nouhan and Hacik Aslangolu spiked their way to finish off Don Bosco in three, 23-25, 25-16, 25-21, but later fell to St. Joseph of Metuchen 21-25, 19-25 match on Tuesday during a quad meet. Bergen was able to topple CBA in three, 23-25, 25-20, 25-22 but came up short to Southern Regional, 13-25, 17-25. McCullagh had 70 kills, Nouhan 98 assists and Arslanoglu 30 digs for the week. Crusaders Cruise To Top of Golf Leaderboard

Deep and Talented, Coach Jim Jacobsen calls BC golf team “one of the best” in his 30 Years

It was only one hole from one match, but it spoke volumes about the state of high school golf in northern New Jersey—and especially the 2012 edition of the Bergen Catholic golf team. One-by-one, with a tee shot and an approach, the Crusaders simply rendered a perfectly good par-5 obsolete. All but one of the team of smooth-swinging teenagers shrugged off the pond in front of the green of the 505-yard 2nd hole at Upper Montclair County Club, and took dead aim at the pin with their second shots. “Not only that,” said 30-year coach Jim Jacobsen, “but three of the six kids hit it with a seven- or an eight-iron. Of all the changes I’ve seen over the years, the distance these kids hit the ball is the biggest. These kids not only all lift weights…

Seniors, Underclassmen Lead the Charge for Spring Season

River Dell and Bergen Catholic athletics open the spring season on March 31

Gloves, bats, rackets and lacrosse sticks were dusted off a few weeks ago for the start of spring training at River Dell and Bergen Catholic; now the Golden Hawks and Crusaders are set to take the field for the start of the 2012 Spring Season. The majority of teams will open their season on April 2, although the River Dell boys lacrosse and the Bergen Catholic volleyball and track teams will get a jump start on March 31. Baseball Anyone who follows high school baseball in the Big North United Division always remembers Don Bosco and St. Joseph's Regional, but after last season, Bergen Catholic entered into the fray after breaking the Ironmen's 25-game win streak in the Non-Public A North quarterfinals. The Crusaders may have lost a lot of …
