Traditional Martial Arts Focuses on Families

Co-founders promote mind, body health through lessons

When Joseph Valentino and Nelson Lopez were looking for a school to practice martial arts, they found it difficult to find a facility offering traditional Japanese Karate-Do training. The revelation led them to create the business they sought. "We looked for traditional schools, not just places teaching kicking and punching, the violent part of martial arts," said Valentino, a North Bergen native, who now resides in Paramus. "At a lot of the schools, the motivation was how quickly you could get a black belt. The way we were trained was traditional–knowing about martial arts, using the Japanese terminology, respecting yourself and others. It was hard to find a place that taught those skills in the area."
