BC Players Not Afraid of Virginia Woolf

The second production of the Bergen County Players 79th Season is Edward Albee's Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?

Community theatre and high drama are not something most people would put together.  Most view them as mutually exclusive.  The Bergen County Players are in their 79th season, and not only are they putting on high drama, but they are putting it on with impressive skill and professionalism. Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf? was written by Edward Albee in the early 1960’s.  It won both the Tony Award and New York Drama Critics Circle Award for Best Play in 1963.  The play was made into a film, also written by Edward Albee, and was a major vehicle for Elizabeth Taylor. The title, for those unfamiliar, can be misleading.  Author Virginia Woolf is in no part of the show, save name only.  But the title is repeating in song all throughout the show, …

Bergen County Players 'Magnificent' in David Mamet Classic Drama

The production of 'Glengarry Glen Ross' should not be missed

Greed, corruption, liars and thieves.  No, this is not a story about the government or some mega-corporation--this is the Bergen County Players' production of "Glengarry Glen Ross." "Glengarry Glen Ross" is the tale of four Realtors and their office manager, and the conniving, underhanded and downright illegal maneuvers they employ against one another to make it to the top.  The name comes from the two real-estate properties they are peddling, the Glengarry Highlands and Glen Ross Farms, both of which are truly undesirable. The play opens with office manager John Williamson (Jon Cole) having aging, once-successful but down-on-his-luck Realtor Shelley “The Machine” Levene (Frank Osmers) demanding better leads so he might get “on the board” …
