Father of Suicide Victim Calls for Students to Stand Against Bullying

John Halligan recently spoke to eighth grade students about how bullying led his son Ryan to commit suicide at 13

A decade has passed for John Halligan since his 13-year-old son Ryan committed suicide after being subjected to years of cyberbullying and bullying in school. On Wednesday, Halligan spent the morning with eighth grade students from River Dell Middle School and St. Peter's Academy talking about Ryan, the impact of bullying and teen suicide. "This is a powerful presentation and it's something we hope resonates with students whether it's today, tomorrow, three months or three years from now," middle school principal Richard Freedman said. It's sad to know that bullying has becoming into an online-form already. As parents, we should be vigilant with our kids' activities especially that all these bullying issues are on the rise, leading them to becoming the victims or worse, the bullies themselves. RDMS Hosts "Ryan's Story" on Jan. 9

John Halligan will present his story about bullying and teen suicide to River Dell students in the morning

A decade has passed for John Halligan since his 13-year-old son Ryan committed suicide after being subjected to years of both cyberbullying and bullying in school. On Wednesday morning, Halligan will spend 90 minutes with River Dell Middle School students talking about Ryan, bullying and indentifying signs of depression and suicide in their peers. The student presentation will begin with a short video collection of home movie clips and pictures of Ryan. Halligan will relate Ryan's story and what led up to his suicide while offering students a families perspective of having a child who is a victimof bullying and cyber bullying. A Cherry Hill father who says his autistic son was tormented for at least six months by public school special education teachers and support staff has taken his case viral with damning, covertly gathered audio of the classroom where he says his son was abused.
