Bergen LEADS, the County’s first and only civic leadership program, began its seminar year September 10. The program, sponsored by the Volunteer Center of Bergen County, prepares leaders to tackle the tough challenges facing Bergen County today and in the future. Among the 30 students accepted into the program though a competitive process in early 2012 are Paramus residents Rachel Glickman and Denise Andersen, Susan Usatine of River Edge, Evan Miller of Berkeley College in Paramus, and Betty Garger of the Girl Scouts of Northern New Jersey, in Paramus. In just 19 months, thousands of football fans will descend upon Bergen County for Super Bowl XLVIII at MetLife Stadium in February 2014. Local business leaders, educators, developers, and government officials meet to discuss ways on how to make Bergen County a desirable tourist destination
If Destination Bergen County, a campaign designed to drive tourism to the region, can be nearly as successful as the 1970’s “I Love New York” campaign was for New York City, the think tank behind the effort could exceed expectations. The economic development program presented June 12 by members of the 2012 Bergen LEADS class during a public forum at Bergen Community College (BCC) opened the possibilities by presenting ideas that highlight the best Bergen County has to offer including historical sites, almost 9,000 acres of county parks, and a multitude of dining and shopping choices that make Bergen County a viable tourist destination. Bergen LEADS class will explore tourism at annual public forum for economic development
Positioning Bergen County as a tourist destination will be the topic at the upcoming public forum on the Role of Economic Development, presented by Bergen LEADS, the premier civic leadership program for adults sponsored by the Volunteer Center of Bergen County. The forum will be moderated by Jim Kirkos, CEO, Meadowlands Regional Chamber of Commerce. Snow on Super Bowl Sunday would be fine. It would add alittle twist to the game and probably look beautiful. The worst would be if it snowed Thurs, Fri or Saturday just before the game. Bergen County towns and DPW workforce would be out in full force clearing streets that cost $$ and problably keept he out-of-towners from spending $$   more ›
