Music and dancing filled the Steuben House as visitors toured all three historic homes at the site
George Washington, portrayed by Rodger Yaden, along with local townspeople celebrated the anniversary of his birthday with a country ball this past weekend at New Bridge Landing. Eighteenth century dancing was featured in the Steuben House under Denise Piccino’s direction with Ridley & Anne Enslow providing musical accompaniment on fiddle and hammered dulcimer. Each of the historic site's three houses, the Steuben House, Campbell-Christie House and Demarest House were open for visitors to tour and enjoy hot cider and crullers. Visitors may also see open-hearth cooking demonstrated in the Out-Kitchen. A tiger-stripe maple bedstead, reputedly used in a local home where George Washington stayed during the 1780 Steenrapie Encampment, is …

The Bergen County Historical Society has proposed constructing a museum at New Bridge Landing. To date the Society has raised $130,000 through private donations towards the museum project
While the fight over state funding continues between the Bergen County Historical Society and the Department of Environmental Protection, preliminary plans to construct a $350,000 museum at New Bridge Landing (NBL) remains a work in progress. To date the Society has raised $130,000 towards the construction of an 18th century Dutch barn replica that would house the Society's many artifacts which haven been placed in storage since the April 2007 Nor'easter. " Fundraising is going well," NBL Park Commission secretary Kevin Wright said. "We've raised $130,000 to date, almost entirely from small donations. We obviously are looking to elevate the building on pilings or columns of some type and to site it on the Society's lands, so we're …

The Bergen County Historical Society held celebrated Brigit's Day and Candlemas over the weekend with an Irish harp concert and candle making demonstrations
Winter has reached a mid-point and to celebrate, the Bergen County Historical Society celebrated the occassion with an Irish concert for Brigit's Day and candle making demonstrations for Candlemas at New Bridge Landing on Sunday. The two events, Brigit's Day and Candlemas, annually fall between the winter solstice and spring equinox, when snowdrops, the first flower of spring, make their appearance, signaling nature’s awakening from winter's sleep. Harpist Ardis Cavin, an adjunct professor at Bergen Community College, performed several Irish ballads on a Celtic harp in the Steuben House. At the same time, visitors were able to create their own custom candles in the Out Kitchen with the help of John Muller of Fort Lee.
