Ford was not expected to survive after being hit by car but he's making full recovery.
Ford is one lucky pooch. Just a few months ago the brown and white pit bull was brought to the Bergen County Animal Shelter in bad shape — partially frozen, with a broken hip and pelvis. Thanks to much love and care he's making a full recovery and will soon be eligible for adoption. Ford had been found clinging to life on Route 280 in late January near Kearny by a state police officer. It's believed he had been hit by a car, says Deborah Yankow of the Bergen County Animal Shelter in Teterboro. "We weren't sure he was going to make it," says Yankow. The young dog, which the shelter named Ford, was very sick and couldn't even walk. The shelter's medical staff began caring for him he has turned out to be a great dog, she says. The shelter …

Dogs from all over Bergen County came out to enjoy an afternoon in the sun.
Sunday was picture perfect as dogs from all over Bergen County came out for Oradell's first K9 Karnival. Organized by the Oradell Special Events Committee, the highlight of the afternoon was the parade and 'Dudes and Divas' Pageant runway. There was music, treats for dogs and humans and lots of family fun at the K9 Karnival. The day also included a blessing of the animals, a presentation by the US War Dog Association and a presentation by the Oradell Animal Hospital on first aid for dogs. There were also shelters, such as the Bergen County Animal Shelter, and rescue centers, with dogs in need of adoption. The Bergen County Animal Shelter in Teterboro is hosting a free educational series on pet health this Saturday, April 6. The free series "Get a Pet/Meet the Vet" begins with "The Basics: Kittens and Cats" from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. followed by "The Basics: Puppies and Dogs" from 3 to 4 p.m. Dr. Jessica Silver, shelter veterinarian, will be conducting both sessions. Individuals and families are welcome to visit the Shelter, see the pets available for adoption, meet the staff who care for them and attend the presentations that provide information on keeping your pets healthy.
