River Edge Cooperstown Team Hosting Fundraiser at Sanducci's Monday

Sanducci's donating 15 percent of Monday's proceeds to the team to help defray the cost of their trip to Cooperstown, NY where they will be participating in the American Youth Baseball Hall of Fame Invitational Tournament.

The 2013 River Edge Cooperstown Team is hosting a fundraiser at Sanducci's Restaurant and Pizza Kitchen on Kinderkamack Road, Monday, May 20 to help fund their trip to Cooperstown, New York in August where they will be participating in The American Youth Baseball Hall of Fame Invitational Tournament at the Cooperstown Dreams Park from August 17 – August 22, 2013. The team is responsible for raising funds to offset the cost of the trip.  To help them reach their goal, Sanducci's in River Edge has generously agreed to make a 15 percent donation, if customers present the attached flyer on Monday, May 20 for dine-in or take-out at their restaurant or pizza kitchen. Derner Signs with Independent Baseball Team

River Edge's Adam Derner heads to the CornBelters as their newest first baseman

After an outstanding final season with the William Paterson Pioneers, first baseman Adam Derner of River Edge will now take his bat and glove out to Illinois where he joins the Frontier-league Normal Cornbelters. Derner was named to both D3baseball.com and American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) All-America First Teams in his senior year. He is a two-time member of theD3baseball.com National Team of the Week(April 2, April 9) and the March 26 NJCBA and NJAC Player of the Week, Derner added a .413 batting average (third in league), 15 doubles (tied-fifth in NJAC), 40 runs scored (tied-seventh in conference), four sacrifice flies (tied-sixth in league) and 59 hits (tied-ninth in NJAC) this spring.  “Adam can supply power from the left …

River Edge Native Takes Field with North Jersey Eagles

Bergen Catholic alum Ray McCourt is one of 10 athletes from Bergen and Passaic County who will compete during the summer league

This summer baseball fans from across Bergen County will be able to watch their favorite alumni compete with the North Jersey Eagles of the Atlantic Collegiate Baseball League at Overpeck Park in Ridgefield Park. And on this year's roster is Bergen Catholic alumni and River Edge native Ray McCourt (catcher). The 6'1" junior at Molloy College picked up First-Team All-North Jersey Recognition in 2007 with the Crusaders and then went on to  the County College of Morris, where he won All-Region and All-Conference kudos. As part of the Molloy Lions, he was recently named to the 2012 All-East Coast Conference Baseball Team after batting .287 on the campaign, with 25 RBI and 15 runs scored. Derner Finishes WPU Career With All-American Honors

River Edge resident and River Dell alum Adam Derner completed his final season with the Pioneers and was named to two All-American teams

Adam Derner has had an outstanding final season with the William Paterson University Pioneers as the senior designated hitter from River Edge blasted 13 home runs, 62 RBI and a slugging percentage of .804. For his efforts at the plate, he was recently named to both D3baseball.com and American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) All-America First Teams. Lady Hawks Runners Bring Home Medal

From the Penn Relays and back to Oradell, its been a busy week for Bergen and River Dell

For three days in Philadelphia, Pa., the best track stars from the tri-state descended upon Franklin Field for the Penn Relays and a shot to return home victorious. On the first day, the Lady Hawks 4x400 relay squad (Sam Schleiger, Paige Fernandez, Melissa Gibbons and Jamie Woods) won their heat placing first in 4:02.86 to advance closer to a repeat title. Schleiger has been part of the relay team since freshman year and is a three time winner, Fernandez and Gibbons have won twice and this is Woods first year competing at Penn. In the 4x100 relay (Kalene Marulis, Nicole Burrowes, Noreen Byrne, Marina Reilly), the Lady Hawks finished fourth in 52.39. Little League, REGAL Celebrates Start of the Spring Season

Opening Day ceremonies were held this past weekend for River Edge baseball and softball

Mitts and bats are ready for the spring season as the River Edge Little League and REGAL took to the diamonds at Veteran's Memorial Park and Kenneth B. George for Opening Day ceremonies. This year marked the 60th anniversary of River Edge Little League while REGAL entered its 47th year of existence in the borough. Over 300 young girls will compete with REGAL this year with the senior division facing teams from Oradell, Montvale, Washington Township, Hillsdale, Park Ridge  and River Vale. The baseball boys of River Edge will compete amongst themselves in several divisions.

Crusaders Regatta Shines in First Competition

Hawks and Crusaders have had an up and down week in athletics

In their first varsity showing of the year, the Bergen Catholic Crusaders regatta squad competed among some of the best rowers in the area at Overpeck Lake Saturday for the inaugural North Jersey Championship Regatta, drawing thousands of rowing fans to the county park. Led by team captain Simon Lezaja who took first place in the single rowers final with a time of 6:41.30, the two four-man teams of Smith/Weisbecker/Ciongoli/Niece and Harte/Kobierowski/Luglio/Jost placed second and third in the Novice 4x finals in 5:51.05 and 6:38.91 respectively. Following a six inning match with DePaul Catholic, Jeff Granger stunned all by throwing a two-hit shutout as Bergen baseball rolled to a 6-0 win over the hot hitting Spartans from Wayne. But the …

Softball Catches a Break While Crusaders Continue to Roll

Week two for spring athletes still has Bergen Catholic on a roll while Lady Hawks finally caught a break

Bergen Catholic has been on a roll this week with baseball capping a pair of victories in five innings: 14-3 over Kennedy and 14-1 over Hackensack. AJ Gallager has been the hot hitter with plenty of RBI's, double and triple to bring the Crusaders to a 5-1 record. Volleyball and golf are still undefeated as Brendan McCullagh, Kirk Nouhan and Hacik Aslangolu spiked their way to finish off Don Bosco in three, 23-25, 25-16, 25-21, but later fell to St. Joseph of Metuchen 21-25, 19-25 match on Tuesday during a quad meet. Bergen was able to topple CBA in three, 23-25, 25-20, 25-22 but came up short to Southern Regional, 13-25, 17-25. McCullagh had 70 kills, Nouhan 98 assists and Arslanoglu 30 digs for the week.
