On Par Budget Brings New Technology to OPS

Taxpayers to see a $62 increase for K-6 school district budget

With its newly introduced preliminary school budget, Oradell Public School is planning on installed new technology and replacing the rear courtyard wall through a tax levy of $9,846,269, a 2% increase over the prior year, or a $62.19 increase on the average household of $531,810. The total budget $10,475,410 includes an increase in state aid of $87,024 increase from the 2011-12 state aid amount of $241,908.OPS is expected to receive $328,932 in state aid for the 2012-13 school year. "This budget maintains all current staff levels," interim superintendent Dr. Maria Nuccetelli said. Boost in State Aid Will Restore Teaching Positions

Taxpayers will have a $68 increase on their property bills

With a stroke of Gov. Chris Christie's budget address pen, the River Edge school district got an increase in state aid and ultimately the restoration of two teaching positions that were previously on the chopping block. "When we presented the first budget on January 28 it included cutting two positions," Superintendent Dr. Tova Ben Dov said. This enables us to restore one full-time position [a discovery room teacher] and in addition allows us to restore a part-time gifted and talented position." The part-time Gifted and Talented position's hours are not yet set but could potentially be run three times a week or a few hours each day. The district gave that funding back to the taxpayers last year following the restoration of the defeated budget by the mayor and council. that amount is not included in this budget   more ›

School Districts Average 30% Increase in State Aid

Across all school districts in New Jersey, there will be an increase in state aid

After the past few years of underfunded state aid to school districts, the River Edge, Oradell and River Dell districts will be receiving a boost of 30% over last year's amount. Governor Chris Christie 2013 Budget proposal includes $7.8 billion in K-12 formula aid, an increase of $135 million over last year and part of $213 million in additional state funding for education over Fiscal Year 2012.  The two K-6 districts will receive the largest percentage increase with 36.7% to River Edge and 36% to Oradell. The Regional district is set for a 23.3% increase. "It seems like they are giving back the aid slowly that was taken two years ago," Oradell Board Administrator Rita Cioppi said. "I'm happy because this will help us, help the school."  …
