Weekend Planner: River Keeper Paddle Day, S'mores Galore, More

Looking to step out of the box and find some fun things to do that are not too far from home this weekend? Patch has it all for you right here. 

Saturday:

  • Lake Tappan Paddle Day: The Hackensack Riverkeeper and United Water Company present the 3rd Annual Lake Tappan Paddle Day in Old Tappan from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.  There will be two Open Paddles starting at 9 a.m. & 12:30 p.m. Each paddle will be 2.5 hours long. 

    Bring your own boat and paddle all day for $15/paddler. Or rent a canoe or kayak from Hackensack Riverkeeper for $20 for a single kayak, $40 for a tandem kayak (holds 2 adult paddlers) and $40 for a canoe (holds 2 adult paddlers and 1 adult passenger OR 2 child passengers).

    Hackensack Riverkeeper has a limited number of children PFDs (personal flotation devices), if you are bringing children please supply your own PFD.

  • PIP Kids Hike to the Castle: Not to be missed, kids take a guided hike through the trails of the Palisades in search of a castle. Truly, the Women's Federation Castle is a hidden gem on the Palisades. Meet 2 PM at State Line Lookout in Alpine (PIP at Exit 3). About 3 mi. in about 2 hrs. over easy trails with some slopes.   • S'mores Galore at Tenafly Nature Center: 12:30 p.m. to 1 p.m. Celebrate International S'mores Day by roasting marshmallows around the campfire. Eat traditional s'mores or create your own with a variety of candies and cookies. Listen to some fun campfire stories and songs. Program is intended for families with children 5 and upThe Tenafly Nature Center is located at 313 Hudson Avenue, Tenafly.
  • Seasonal Scavenger Hunt at Tenafly Nature Center: 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. Families will receive a set of clues to help solve nature riddles along the Nature Center trails. Each family will need to work as a team to complete the hunt and receive a small prize. Program is intended for adults and children 4 and up. The Tenafly Nature Center is located at 313 Hudson Avenue, Tenafly.
  • NJ Botanical Gardens Summer Craft Fair: 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tons of FREE fun for the whole family! Over 40 booths with beautiful crafts, including jewelry, pottery, sculpture, art, kids' stuff, and all kinds of unusual goodies. Lots of great food and drink, too! NJ Botanical Gardens is located at 2 Morris Road, Ringwood.
  • Fort Lee Music and Movies Under the Stars: The evening kicks off with the Red Hook Ramblers followed by the movie The Artist. Music begins at 7 p.m. followed by the movie. Fort Lee Community Center is located at 1355 Inwood Terrace, Fort Lee.

  • Allendale Farmers Market: 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. NJ Transit Lot, Allendale Avenue, Allendale.
  • Oakland Farmers Market: 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Municipal Lot, Ramapo Valley Road, Oakland.
  • Rutherford's Farmers Market: 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Williams Plaza, Park Avenue, 
    Rutherford.
