Approximately 5,000 young women receive their Girl Scout Gold Award each year. That's an average of 5.4% of the eligible registered Girl Scouts in grades 10-12; but in Oradell five young women earned the highest award in Girl Scouts this year.
This week's Whiz Kids are Gabriella Belthoff, Ashley Feigenson, Megan Gallow, Carolyn Rauch and Caitlin Powers who spent months working on their Gold Projects to give back to the community.
Belthoff worked with local funeral homes to recycle flower arrangements for the residents at the . While Feigenson collected and organized 200 activity bags for the children at 's Pediatric Unit. Each bag was filled with coloring books, markers, books and puzzles.

Rauch and Powers' projects were done an out-of-area scale. Rauch collected baby items and worked with a group of fellow Scouts to knit over 100 hats that were then sent to hospitals in Haiti for mothers and their children. Powers collected supplies for the Walter Reed Medical Center and members of the VFW delivered the items to DC.
Gallow put together a project called Dancing with the Stars.
