This year's 2012 campaign may not have ended how the Bergen Catholic Crusaders invisioned with a Non Public Group 4 trophyarch rival Don Bosco Prep in the state semifinals. But for seven members of the squad, they received one final accolade to their name as they were listed to MSG Varsity's All-Metro Teams.
“This year MSG Varsity covered 185 high school football games, giving viewers the opportunity to watch these players excel throughout the fall season,” said MSG Varsity’s Mike Quick in a press release. “Each year I’m honored to recognize these talented athletes on my show for what they’ve already accomplished on the field.”
Seniors JJ Kulscar (wide receiver) and Jon Germano (all-around) and junior Kurt Holuba (defensive lineman) were named to the First Team while senior defensive back Kyle Queiro joined the Second Team.
Germano, the NJ Gatorade Player of the Year, moved up from the 2011 Second Team Quarterback to this year's First Team as an all-around offensive athlete. The starring quarterback converted to the signal caller position in 2011 after joining the Crusaders as a safety. He broke several records this season as the all-time leader in career passing touchdowns, yards, and completions. He completed 197 of 319 passes, ran 513 yars over 148 carries, threw for 3,139 yards and 10 touchdowns, and made three tackles on defense.
Kulcsar, a wide-receiver and defensive back, picked up 1,250 receiving yards, 14 touchdowns and a pair of tackles. Holuba had 57 tackles and eight sacks while Queiro took down 59 opponents and had 14 catches for 260 yards.
“The football players who make up the MSG Varsity All Metro Team are among the best in the tri-state area,” said Michael Lardner, Senior Vice President and Executive Producer, MSG Varsity in a press release. “We are thrilled to partner with The National Football Foundation to honor these student athletes and their coaches who demonstrate on a regular basis the passion, athleticism and sportsmanship it takes to succeed both on and off the field.”
Outside linebacker Chris McBride (one tackle), defensive end/tight end Garrett Dickerson (58 tackles, 6 sacks, and 24 catches for 364 yards) and linebacker Parker Tobia (65 tackles) all appeared on the 2012 Honorable Mention list.
