Hawks Fall Short to Dwight Morrow

The River Dell Golden Hawks now sport a 5-5 record after falling to the Maroon Raiders

ORADELL- The River Dell boys’ basketball struggled at home on Tuesday as the Golden Hawks fell 69-52 to the visiting Dwight-Morrow Maroon Raiders. The loss brought the Hawks record to an even 5-5.

Troy Bendian got the Hawks off to an early start with a fastbreak run down court but the Raiders continued to fight back and take an early halftime lead. Prior to the half, senior Nicky Shanman banked back-to-back treys.

“I always think positive before going into each game” Shanman said. “I think when our team executes we can be very successful.”

“We definitely didn’t have one of our better games nor did we play to our full potential.” junior Troy Bendian. “I thought we fought hard but made mistakes early that had cost us.”

Shanman added that the Maroons' are larger than some of the Hawks regular opponents.

"They were able to rebound us and catch us off guard, which is why we crumbled towards the end," Shanman said.

The Hawks will now look to rebound on Thursday, 7pm when River Dell heads to Ridgefield Park (7-1) to face the Scarlets who are averging at least 50 points a game.
