St. Peter Academy Students Hear the Truth About Drugs

The Foundation for a Drug-Free World helped St. Peter Academy students make good choices about staying drug-free.

Students at St. Peter Academy took a serious break recently from their preparations for the holidays. Students in grades 3 to 8 took the pledge to maintain a drug-free lifestyle.

That was the result of a recent assembly, when Dr. Daniel Margolin of the Foundation for a Drug-Free World Bergen County Chapter spoke to students about the dangers of drugs.

Margolin, who serves as Bergen County director of the group, gave pupils factual information about the harmful effects of drugs.

“During the holidays it gives us a chance to reflect on family, family values and the future of our child.  One of the greatest obstacles our children face looking towards that future is the pressure to succumb to the horrible world of drug addiction.

"We are proud to represent a solution to this problem,” said Margolin, who has been going all over the county for the past six months with the group's anti-drug message.

The foundation's simple yet effective program empowers youth by giving them the facts so they can make informed decisions to not take drugs in the first place.

The program goes into a thorough explanation of what a drug actually is and how it works on the body and emotions.  All of the information is scientifically documented in the 'Truth About Drugs' booklets that are given to students to take home as a guide, Margolin said.
