RiverDell Looks to "Restore the Shore"

Regional district will take part in a year-long effort to assist in relief efforts at the Jersey Shore

Compared to other areas up and down the Garden State, RiverDell escaped primarly unscathed from the worst effects of Hurricane Sandy and now the Regional High School students have committed to helping in anyway they can for the rest of the school year. The "Restore the Shore" efforts kicked off on Wednesday night with a combined costume dance in the cafeteria and collection drive.

"We're asking that students and the overall community donate cleaning supplies," Senior Options Coordinator Jennifer Luberto said. "This will be an all year thing for the rest of the year as the needs change from clothes to cleaning supplies to holiday toys."

The district will be coordinating with a church in Toms River to distribute the items to three shelters housing victims. Items that are most needed include: cleaning supplies, brooms, shovels, plastic bins/containers, toiletries, new blankets and pillows.

"We're also going to look into having the students travel to the Shore to assist with clean-up and rebuilding efforts," Luberto said. "River Dell is going to cover the full busing costs."

Donation will be collected up until Thanksgiving for the initial collection drive in the Main Foyer of the High School.Along with cleaning products, blankets and pillows, donations are also being accepted for non-perishable food, baby items, and personal hygiene products.
