Two weeks ago River Dell meet the Scarlet’s of Ridgefield Park in what would be their most difficult victory on the season, escaping narrowly with a 19-14 five point victory, so with the NJSIAA tournament starting last night it was only fitting the Hawks drew Ridgefield Park in the opening round.
The Hawks lead by Quarterback Tim Barnes who caught a touchdown pass from Sean Boland and ran for two touchdowns lead River Dell to a first round 25-7 victory over the Scarlet’s of Ridgefield Park.
Barnes scored his first touchdown in the second quarter with a 1-yard run allowing the Hawks to take a 6-0 lead going into halftime. The second half saw the Hawks defense manhandle Ridgefield Park and Barnes add another 1-yard scoring run giving River Dell a comfortable two touchdown lead.
The Scarlet’s refused however to quit cutting into the lead with a Eric Reynoso 6-yard touchdown run, but the Hawks answered right back with a 27-yard field goal by Alex Derner who was having a rough game missing a field goal and an extra point early in the first half. But River Dell was far from done adding the final knock-out blow off a 10-yard reception by Barnes from Sean Boland.
River Dell will play at Ramsey on Friday, Nov. 18, 7pm. The Hawks defeated the Rams, 31-0 on Sept. 23.
