Jack Lippin, a junior at Bergen Catholic has now changed his gears from the football season to the winter track season.
Lippin’s specialty is the shot put and 25-pound weight throw, which he participates in during out of state meets.
Big things could be ahead for the shot put standout and he has major goals for both his team and himself during this season and when the season comes to an end.
“My team goals are for us to get better every week and for many of us to qualify for many big meets and grow as a team. My personal goals are to have personal best throws every meet and by the end of the season to be happy with my progress as a thrower. Also to help me complete my ultimate goal of getting into the United States Military Academy, West Point.”
The winter track team is young but major progress has been shown as the season has gone on. Lippin himself has made quite the statement during his performances at meets and it is being recognized.
“This is the first season throwing the weight throw and I qualified for a meet at Dartmouth University and for the Nationals in March at the armory on 168th street in NYC. I’m excited that this is my first season throwing this in this event (weight throw) and I have qualified for these meets and set a school record.”
When the winter track season is done, Lippin will also compete in spring track as well. He is excited for some new challenges during that season for the Crusaders.
“In the spring I compete in shot put and discus, and this year in the spring I will start throwing the hammer throw in out of state meets.”
Lippin is not afraid to try new things in the sport and mix things up.
It has been a fun year thus far for Lippin and his teammates and they will continue to chase their goals and accomplish what they want to at the end of the season.
