Florio Makes 9th PD Chief in 85 Years [Video]

Frank Florio was promoted to the rank of Police Chief in Oradell

Officially organized in 1926, the Oradell Police Department has only been led by eight Chief's to date. Sgt. Frank Florio became the 9th Chief in the department's 85 year history following his promotion Tuesday night.

Chief Florio was appointed as a patrolman in 1988 and was subsequently promoted to his current rank of Sergeant in 2003. In both instances he was ranked as the #1 candidate for appointment/promotion.

"I would like to take the opportunity to thank you for your service ot Oradell," Congressman Scott Garrett stated in a letter read by Councilman Eric Shuler. "You have dutifully served with energy over your 24-year career and have repeatedly demonstrated an unwaivering dedication to law enforcement from patrol to the distinguished rank of sergeant."

Trained at the NJ State Police Training center, Florio is a graduate of the 189th Municipal Basic Police Course. He earned degrees in Criminal Justice Administration and Police Science. He is currently certified as a community policing and crime prevention officer, firearms applicant officer, and an assistant terminal access coordinator for both State and NCIC computer systems.

He has been recognized by various organizations for his stellar work in the community including receiving awards such as the Knights of Columbus "Officer of the Year" award in 2002, the "End DWI" Police award in 1999, PBA Apprehension award in 1998, and a PBA Exceptional Duty award in 1994.

"On behalf of the crossing guards, I would like to congratulate Chief Florio," borough resident and crossing guard Lou Suarez said.

Council candidate Tony Meo presented Florio with a citation of achievement and commendation of praise to Florio on behalf of Assemblyman Robert Schroeder.
