Booker and Lonegan Come Out on Top in Tuesday's Special Primary

In unofficial count, Booker and Lonegan get most votes in special primary election.

Newark Mayor Corey Booker took the Democratic ticket in both River Edge and Oradell, while Steve Lonegan took the Republican ticket in both towns, in New Jersey's special primary election for the office of U.S. Senate left vacant by the death of Senator Frank Lautenberg. 

In River Edge, Booker had an unofficial count of 219 votes. He was one of four Democratic candidates vying for the vacated seat. Lonegan had an unofficial count of 121. A total of 495 voters came out to cast their vote in Tuesday's special primary election. 

In Oradell, Booker had an unofficial count of 131 votes. Lonegan had an unofficial count of 131. A total of 358 voters came out to cast their vote in Tuesday's special primary election.

  • Corey Booker (D): 219
  • Sheila Oliver (D): 3
  • Rush Holt (D): 64
  • Frank Pallone, Jr. (D): 68 
  • Steve Lonegan: (R): 121
  • Alieta Eck (R): 20
Here is the unofficial count for all candidates in Oradell: 
  • Corey Booker (D): 131
  • Sheila Oliver (D): 3
  • Rush Holt (D): 40
  • Frank Pallone, Jr. (D): 23 
  • Steve Lonegan: (R): 131
  • Alieta Eck (R): 30
The special election to fill the U.S. Senate seat left vacant by the death of Lautenberg will be on Oct. 16.
