How to Conserve Energy in the Area's Arctic Chill

Here are some simple tips to help you keep the electricity going.

PSE&G has asked customers to limit their electrical usage between 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. during Tuesday's unseasonally frigid weather. That's because customers in 13 states, including New Jersey, who rely on electricity to heat their homes are putting a strain on the electrical grid.

Here's are some simple steps the utility company suggests you can use to help conserve energy:

  • Set thermostats lower than usual, if health permits;
  • Postpone using major electric appliances such as stoves, dishwashers and
  • clothes dryers until mid-day or after 9 p.m., when the demand for electricity decreases;
  • Turn off electric lights and appliances that you do not need or are not using.
