Driver in 6-Car Crash Charged with Benadryl, Ambien 'Intoxication'

Marion Fisher of Oradell is accused of being under the influence of over-the-counter and prescription drugs when she allegedly caused a chain reaction accident.

An Oradell woman who was the catalyst in an October car crash that impacted six vehicles was charged Thursday with being under the influence of prescription and over-the-counter drugs.

Marion Fisher, 46, was charged with driving while intoxicated, assault by auto, and being under the influence of various medications: Diphenydramine, otherwise known as the over-the-counter allergy drug, Benadryl; Zolpidem, the generic name for the prescription sleep medication, Aleve; and Butalbital, a prescription pain reliever and muscle relaxant.

Fisher, who lived in Hawthorne prior to moving to Oradell, was released pending a court appearance, the Hackettstown Police said in a release.

Police said Fisher was traveling in a 2008 Chrysler on Route 46 when she struck a vehicle driven by Debra Smythe, of Hackettstown, that was stopped in traffic on the morning of Oct. 1. Smythe's 2002 Hyundai rear-ended a 2010 Chevy driven by Stella Landolfi, 37, of Independence Township.

Fisher's vehicle continued eastbound on Route 46 when itsideswiped a 2001 Volvo driven by Kristina Hentschel, 44, of Belvidere, and a 2010 Honda driven by Irene Cardell, 62, of Succasunna.

The crash caused Cardell's vehicle to strike a 2005 Pontiac driven by 18-year-old David Rosado Jr., of Great Meadows, that was stopped in traffic, police said.

Several of the drivers and passengers, including an 8-year-old child in Smythe's car sustained minor injuries and were treated at Hackettstown Regional Medical Center, according to police.
