Oradell Library 100th Anniversary Wine Tasting Fundraiser

Affordable holiday wines, light bites, and raising funds for library technology and education initiatives are on the menu for this special event.

On Saturday, November 16, supporters of the Oradell Public Library and wine aficionados alike are invited to “check out” a selection of holiday wines during a Wine Tasting Fundraiser at the Oradell Public Library from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. Guests will toast the library’s historic 100-year anniversary and raise much-needed funds for educational programs and technological initiatives in the process.

The wine tasting will be presented by the expert staff at Wine & Roses, a family-owned purveyor of wine, fresh flowers, and gift baskets in New Milford. To enhance the tasting experience, an assortment of cheeses, crackers, and other wine-friendly snacks will be served. For an added treat, the Lindt Chocolate store at Bergen Town Center in Paramus will provide a special selection of chocolate bars and truffles, as well as tips on pairing chocolate with wine.

Throughout the evening, the library will run a “100 Corks for 100 Years” fundraising promotion. Guests who choose to make a donation to the library during the festivities will be able to select a numbered cork, which will correspond to a mystery gift. Corks will be offered at two giving levels: the “Anniversary” level ($50 donation) and the “Reserve” level ($100 donation). Gifts will be customized to the giving level and may include a bottle of wine, gift card, and/or product donated by the event’s generous sponsors.

Lindt Chocolate at Bergen Town Center, Stop & Shop in Emerson, and Taste of Greece Restaurant in River Edge are among the sponsors that will contribute food and supplies for the event.

“Good literature and fine wine have always been a perfect pairing, so this is an exciting and apropos way to conclude our library’s 100th anniversary year,” said John J. Trause, Director of the Oradell Public Library. “We hope many old and new friends will join us to celebrate the last century and to raise funds to ensure the coming years will be equally successful.”

About the Oradell Public Library:

The Oradell Public Library was founded in 1913 in a room behind the town’s Post Office. In its first year of existence, the library had 214 registered cardholders. As it celebrates its 100th anniversary this year, the Oradell Public Library now functions as an educational, historical, recreational, and social center for a vibrant community of more than 8,000 residents. In addition to providing free access to education and information for the people of Oradell and beyond, the library regularly presents special interest programs, sponsors reading clubs and activities, serves as a curator of local history, and supports the pursuit of knowledge through diverse initiatives, such as a newly-launched Museum Pass Loan Program.

The Oradell Public Library carries out this work with the support of the Oradell Public Library Foundation and the Friends of the Oradell Library, a nonprofit group of dedicated volunteers who spearhead essential fundraising and programming projects.
