Behind the Scenes with the Cake Designer: Sneaker Cakes are All the Rage this Spring!

It seems like everyone wants a sneaker cake this spring! Guys just love their sneakers so why not have your sneakers and eat them too. To make a sneaker out of cake, I stack and fill long rectangle cakes in the general size of a sneaker. Then I get out the knife and begin carving. The challenging part is to carve each sneaker the same shape. Then the tedious process begins of figuring out all the layers of the sneaker and applying those shapes layer by layer to the "sneaker". Guys who love their sneakers want all those small details on the cake -- even down to the stitching. We've included some of the sneakers we made. Check out other cool cakes we've made.
