Behind the Scenes with the Cake Designer

In this blog, I plan to provide a behind the scenes look at what type of crazy cakes can be made and provide tips and tricks of making these designs.

I am happy to have been asked to write a blog for the RiverDell Patch. My name is Lisa Rochelle and I've been a resident of Oradell for the past 13 years. My three children attend the Oradell Elementary School and I'm an active member of the Oradell PTA. After a 20 year plus career as an Equity Research Analyst on Wall Street, I became an entrepreneur and artist by launching Sweet Grace, Cake Designs (aptly named after my sweet daughter Grace).  I followed the footsteps of my sister Renee who has been a sucessful cake designer for over 15 years.

Large, crazy, over-the-top cake designs have become very popular with the rise of all the cake shows on TV. People love to look at what can be created with just cake and it's also fun to watch these cakes being made. And the drama around creating these cakes is real! It's not easy sculting and stacking a tower of cake -- given that this is just food we are using to create these works of art. So I can attest to the fact that each design presents it's own challenges and hair-pulling drama.

Many people have taken up cake design as a hobby to make fun, decorated cakes for their friends and family. I also teach cake classes, so please post questions about your cake creations and also photos of the cakes you create.
