Behind the Scenes of a Cake Designer: Pinterest is a Great Source of Inspiration

I love using Pinterest for business purposes and for personal recreation.  The website has only been around for three years but it's already one of the top social media sites -- only behind Facebook and Twitter.  It's very easy to open an account and find friends from Facebook or Twitter. Or you can simply search for other users who who have interests similar to you. Unlike Facebook, you don't have to know people you follow.  They also have all the pins sorted by category so you can just browse categories that interest you such as food, fashion, or animals. 

I, of course, love following people who pin beautiful cakes.  I then re-pin my favorites to a "Cakes I Love" board (http://pinterest.com/sweetgrace/cakes-i-love/).  I also following many cake tutorial boards and subsequently re-pin my favorite tutorials to a "Tutorials" boards (http://pinterest.com/sweetgrace/tutorials/). Definitely check out this board if you want to learn more about cake decorating.  I also pin cakes that I've made and these get pinned over and over by hundreds of other pinners. To this blog post, I attached photos some of my pins that have gotten the most re-pins. 

It's not just about photos on Pinterest though.  You can pin recipes (of course they show a photo of the finished dish but they also link to the recipe). It's a great way to organize the recipes you find online.  I have a pin button on my computer toolbar and I can pin anything I find on the Internet.  Many websites will also include a pin button to repin things you find interesting.

Fashion is another great topic on pinterest.  I pin fashion looks I like and even sewing tips and patterns. Inspiration for home decor is prevalent.  You can set up a board and pin inspiration photos for each room you plan to re-do.
