Is your Extra Virgin Olive Oil Really Olive Oil?

I am an LPN Nurse and recouping from being very sick, this is how I ate myself back to health. This article continues telling the story of my research into a different kind of nutrition.

And I’m not talking about Popeye’s Olive Oil

The health benefits of Olive Oil are well known and in my previous posts, I document the benefit of Olive Oil, Coconut Oil and the health dangers of hydrogenated oil or vegetable oil.  These replacement oils may indeed be the restricted Trans Fat.  Trans fat and hydrogenated fats are harmful because they leave free-radicals in the body thus causing aging and disease. See my other posts for further explanations. According to Tom Mueller’s book, we may indeed be in-fact getting hydrogenated oil when we think we are going the extra mile and buying Extra Virgin Olive Oil.

In a book review from the New York Times published: December 7, 2011.  “A few pages into Tom Mueller’s new book, “Extra Virginity,” there’s a funny moment when an olive oil expert holds up a bottle that’s covered with dubious claims: “100 percent Italian,” “cold-pressed,” “extra virgin.” The man shakes his head and says, perhaps with a hint of Don Rickles in his voice, “Extra virgin? What’s this oil got to do with virginity? This is a whore.”

Very interesting, thank you for the article. I'm surprised there is not more regulation over this given how any consumers are probably being misled and misinformed.

Thanks for the comment. I, in this case, do not recommend regulation. It is because we allow the FDA to control what food is allowed to be sold that many of these "arrangements" are allowed. The individual is perfectly capable of learning and checking out the product before the purchase. The purchasing power of the individual is extremely powerful. Also many business are starting up, bottling their own Olive Oil. Thanks again for the comment Joan

You should post your entire article here, instead of directing people to your site. I think more would read it that way.

A lot of Italian Olive Oil is made from Olives from Turkey, but since it is bottled in Italy, they call it Italian.
Ridgewood Mom 26 October 10, 2012 at 07:06 PM
A lot of olive oil is also made from olives in Spain, Greece and Tunisia such as Filippo Berio. It's a bit misleading to called it Italian!
Joan McDaniel October 10, 2012 at 08:59 PM
As long as it is Olive oil that is being called Italian. In many cases it isn't even Olive Oil but Canola Oil which is a pesticide. Exactly, What is Canola Oil? http://coconutcreamcare.com/2012/09/17/exactly-what-is-canola-oil/

These articles seem to be infomercials for Ms. McDaniel's web site and the theories of Dr. Mercola rather than anything designed to be helpful by themselves.

I am sorry for your opinion. I was very sick. I found how to get well by watching what I ate and reducing toxic oils. These articles are my research. I am not a nutritionist, nor a doctor, I'm an LPN nurse. I have found information from Dr. Mercola, Health Ranger and many others. I want to inform. I am selling nothing, nor do I gain anything. I want to inform others of what I have learned. Thank You for your comment B@B. I have put a great deal of effort each article. I have become much better and have returned to work part time. I just hope I can help others. I provide the links to other sources for the purpose of doing your own research. Thank You again for your comment.
