Bergen Hibernians to Take a Polar Plunge for Family Fundraiser

River Edge resident Sam Nugent died of ALS. The Bergen County Ancient Order of Hibernians is fundraising to help with the medical bills left behind.

Sam Nugent, a River Edge resident who struggled for several years with the profound effects of ALS - otherwise known as Lou Gehrig's Disease - passed away on Nov. 4 at the age of 54. He not only left behind his distraught and loving family, but a huge pile of bills from the devastating disease.

That's where the Bergen County Ancient Order of Hibernians (AOH), Fr. Solanus Casey Division #32, comes in. Club members are participating in a Polar Plunge, where they take a very chilly dip into the Atlantic Ocean, as a fundraiser for Sam's family.

The Polar Plunge takes place on Sunday, Jan. 13, in Long Branch.

Not everyone will be able to make the trip to Monmouth County, so those who would like to contribute to the fund are encouraged to send donations via check (with 'Nugent Family' on the memo line) to St. Peter The Apostle Church, 445 Fifth Ave, River Edge, NJ 07661.

The AOH website is aohbergen.com.
