Oradell moms take action and 'Make a Change'

This past July, a study published in the Pediatrics journal concluded that 30% of mothers struggle to afford diapers. The study showed that the effect of diaper need went far beyond the physical health of the children. Children impacted by diaper need often have more difficulty managing stress and tend to suffer from depression more frequently, negatively affecting the development of the child and the health of the entire family.*

Oradell moms, Kim Kyasky and Mary Ann Schwanewede, became inspired to start a Diaper Bank which would raise awareness about diaper need and collect and distribute to families in need on a regular basis through local food banks and pantries in Bergen County. They were soon joined by friends and neighbors, all Oradell and River Edge mothers and fathers ready to pitch in.

The Make A Change Diaper Bank will celebrate its official launch on November 16th at the Knights of Columbus in Washington Township, 7-11 pm with food, drinks and live music by WigJam. Advance tickets available through www.MakeAChangeDiaperBank.org. $40 in advance. $45 at the door. Diaper donations are welcome, all sizes.
