New pastel exhibit at Bergen County Players

The Bergen County Players at 298 Kinderkamack Road in Oradell is featuring original water lily pastel paintings by Rachel Avenia. The exhibit is in the lower level of the theater and runs from January 12th-February 2nd. The public is invited to view the exhibit during box office hours as well as during performances.

Rachel Avenia is a fine artist from Oradell, NJ. Inspired by the Claude Monet tribute at the New York Botanical Gardens, Avenia chose to focus on water lilies for this series. She says “to me, ponds always suggest a contemplative pause as I consider the patterns on the water, fish, and upside-down reflected landscapes. As we enter the dreary winter months I hope viewers enjoy these reflections of summer days when the fish were darting and lilies were in full bloom.”

Working exclusively in pastels, Avenia creates paintings that focus on capturing the interplay of light and water. Avenia has been juried into several regional shows and has won awards at the 2012 Salamagundi non-member's show and the Piermont Flywheel Gallery's recent exhibit "Atttitude". More of Avenia's work can be seen online at www.rachelavenia.com.
