Saudino Suspends Foreclosure Sales; Blauvelt Sale Postponed Two Weeks

The foreclosure sales of two Blauvelt Mansion mortgages will now be suspended following Hurricane Sandy

The "jewel of Oradell" has received yet another break as Bergen County Sheriff Michael Saudino announced on Thursday that he was suspending all foreclosure sales for a two-week period. The Blauvelt Mansion's two mortgages sales were scheduled for Nov. 16, but will most likely not happen until the end of the month now.

“Superstorm Sandy has been a nightmare for the people of New Jersey and for the residents of Bergen County,” Bergen County Sheriff Michael Saudino said in a press release. “We are still living in the wake of this terrible storm and my sincere thoughts and prayers go out to all people affected by Sandy.”

The Mansion's two mortages total approximately $1.9 million and , and if acquired by CareOne could lead to development of the four-acre property. CareOne had purchased the Blauvelt Mansion property in January 2011 but the mortgages sales were tied up in litigation as foreclosure proceedings had to wind their way through the courts.

Former owner Jeffrey Wells and CareOne had twice been rejected by the Zoning Board of Adjustment to construct an assisted living facility on the front lawn. Wells later took CareOne to court after the company reneged on a prior agreement to continue making $15,000 a month in mortgage payments.

When the Wells family left the Mansion in the spring of 2011, the property was carrying a mortgage of roughly $2.5 million and had been placed in foreclosure the prior year.

An exact date and time for the new foreclosure sale has yet to be set. Once scheduled, the sale would take place at the Sheriff's Office, 10 Main Street in Hackensack.
