It has been a two year wait, but the waiting has been worth it at the River Edge Public Library. The library installed its new and ADA compliant circulation desk recently as part of its interior makeover project.
"I'd like to thank the Mayor and Council for their support," Library Director Daragh O'Connor said. "It has been a home run of success for us. The comments from the public have been 'wow, it really opens up the library.' And it does that and a lot more."
The desk, which was funded by a Community Development Block Grant is now approximately 30-feet long, as compared to the previous desk that measured 54 feet. It is also ADA compliant both for patrons and employees.
"It really does open up the floor and improve access to the back of the building for the children's department, restrooms and meeting room," O'Connor said.
The remainder of the Interior Make-Over project will continue throughout the year for new tables, chairs and carpeting. But before any of that can begin, the Library and Council will look to replace the building's roof.
