Knights of Columbus Present Community Service Awards to First Responders

St. Joseph's Knights of Columbus New Milford/Oradell recognized first responders from New Milford and Oradell for their community service and presented scholarships to two graduating eighth graders from St. Joseph's School.

Eight first responders who have demonstrated exceptional service to the community were presented with Certificates of Appreciation by St. Joseph's Council #3814 Knights of Columbus New Milford/Oradell at their annual Community Awards ceremony, Friday, June 28. 

Members of the Police Department, Fire Department and Ambulance Corps. were honored for their dedication to service and their willingness to put their lives on the line in the service of others.  

John Klochan, Grand Knight of St. Joseph's Council, presented the Certificates of Appreciation, along with each first responder's commanding officer, to the following for their Community Service:

New Milford Chief of Police Frank Papapietro presented the awards to Lt. John O'Malley, P.O. George Herrero and P.O. Justin Pisano.

New Milford Fire Chief Craig Maiocchi presented awards to William Drew (Co. 1) and Theodore Reighard (Co. 2).

Oradell Police Chief Frank Florio and Lt. Michael Oslacky presented a certificate P.O. Richard Liguori.

Oradell Fire Chief Dan Nywening presented an award to fireman William S. Spranz.

Captain Denise Brunner of the New Milford/Oradell Volunteer Ambulance Corps presented a certificate to 1st. Lieutenant Andrew Flannery     

Scholarships were also awarded by St. Joseph's Council to graduating eighth graders who will be attending Catholic high school in September. Joseph Carrier and Gian Paolo Pericone were awarded $500 scholarships. Carrier will be attending Don Bosco Prep High School and Pericone will be attending Bergen Catholic. 

The scholarships were awarded based on the applicant's charitable and volunteer activities, awards and school honors, school activities, leadership positions and an essay on one of the Knights of Columbus principles of Charity, Unity, Fraternity and Patriotism.
